How to Prepare for a Run

There are many fun runs and marathons held every year here in the country. These runs are joined by many organizations and people from all walks of life. Runs not only promote healthy living, it also promote awareness and social responsibility. For example, on November 17, 11000 runners joined Run for Hope Singapore. The event raised more than S$465000 for the National Cancer Centre. This is a step closer to finding the cure for cancer.


If you are fond of runs, you should be prepared. You should know that running is not easy and it take a lot to do it well. Here are some things that you need to prepare when considering runs:

Signing Up

Of course, the first thing that you need to do is sign up for the run. If you are a beginner, it is recommended that you consider the nearest. You should sign up for runs months from now so you can train.


You should think about your training routine. It is not advisable to run every day. You can run at least thrice a week. The other days may be used for other training like cross training and resistance training.


Warming Up

It is important that you practice and observe proper warm up exercises. Before the run or any strenuous exercise, it is imperative that you stretch and limber up. After the training or exercise, you should also cool down while stretching. This will help reduce the soreness caused by extensive exercise.


Eating Properly

It is not only exercise that matters. Food matters too. You should eat the right amount and type of food, particularly those that are rich in minerals and vitamins. You should eat carbohydrates because it can give you energy. You may want to cut back on your protein.

Having Fun

Few people have fun because they are eyeing the prize. That is not a good way to start your run. You should enjoy it and have fun. Do not think about the prize (although aiming for the prize can inspire you too).
